Start off your Spring by getting out to see the latest exhibitions around town. The Newport Gallery Organization is hosting Newport Gallery Night on March 12th, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00pm at participating member galleries, museums and cultural institutions.

There are a number of exciting new member galleries including Skuteundfish, Beach Studio, Jeff Soderbergh and the Jamestown Art Center for the 20th season of Newport Gallery Night that has expanded the geographic reach of the group into Middletown, Portsmouth and Jamestown making this monthly celebration of the arts a truly county wide affair.

New exhibitions include DeBlois Gallery’s “Breaking Out”, their annual themed show of regional artists and Spring Bull Gallery’s new show “Favorite Views and Places”. In addition, new work at new member galleries Skuteundfish, Beach Studios, Jeff Soderbergh and Jamestown Art Center.

February Newport Gallery Night Kicks Off the 2020 Season

A new year means a new season of Newport Gallery Night events. The Newport Gallery Organization kicks off its 20th season with February Newport Gallery Night on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at participating galleries, museums and cultural institutions. As the winter weather becomes milder, it’s the perfect time to experience the art scene around Newport.

February Newport Gallery Night is the perfect night to escape, de-stress and share with your loved one.  Notably, Spring Bull Gallery’s ever popular annual Fakes & Forgeries exhibit is on display. The much anticipated show features serious “copies” and humorous interpretations of well-known artwork, all submitted by local artists and created in a variety of forms and styles. Galen Snow, currently a Visiting Artist at Spring Bull Gallery will be doing an informal demonstration and discussion of her “Paper Montage, Painting with Paper” techniques and creative approach.

Enjoy the Cool Winter Air by Heading Out to December Newport Gallery Night

This December, enjoy the cool air and shop the local art scene for some unique holiday gifts on December Newport Gallery Night which will take place on December 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  This will be the LAST NEWPORT GALLERY NIGHT of the year.     

Deblois Gallery is featuring “Looking Upwards”, a holiday art show.  Coastal Contemporary Gallery is hosting “‘W-Intermission” on exhibit through January 20th.  Spring Bull Gallery is hosting the 28th Annual Little Picture Show, an annual showcase of small artistic treasures in oils, watercolors, pastels, graphics, welded metal sculptures, stoneware and other media.   

Additional highlights at some of the other member galleries include: Sheldon Fine Art, showcasing modern marine artist Ken Zier; Atelier Gallery featuring its annual holiday exhibition, “la famiglia”; and Newport Art Museum hosting its Faculty and Student Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale for their monthly “Art After Dark” event.

There are exciting new shows at many of our member galleries. Fall is a time for reflection and new beginnings, a theme seen at DeBlois Gallery’s “New Faces” show. Full of works by emerging artists, “New Faces” proves that the community is thriving with fresh talent.

Coastal Contemporary Gallery puts fall flora in full display with their exhibit, “Floralism,” in which three female artists translate their experiences and relationships into petals and thorns. CCG presents a vibrant garden in their floral pieces during the month of November, full of mystery, wonder, and delight.

New Art Exhibits Around Newport in Time for FREE Walking Tours at October Gallery Night

As the seasons change, anticipation is in the air at our member galleries, museums and cultural institutions as we approach October Newport Gallery Night on Thursday, October 10th from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

This is the last chance this season to experience our popular FREE Guided Walking Art Tours. These informational tours showcasing new exhibits in and around Newport will run hourly as follows:   meeting at 4:00 pm at Thames Glass, 5:00 pm at Spring Bull Gallery, 6:00 pm at Art on Spring and 7:00 pm at Arnold Art Gallery.  Self-guided tours will continue into the winter season, but for October Gallery Night, local experts will serve as your guide to the Newport art scene so don’t miss out!

There are intriguing new shows at many of the 26 member galleries, museums and cultural institutions including: American Landscape, an exploration of the past and present American landscape at Atelier, a collection of interpretations of  the theme “Reflection” showcased at Spring Bull Gallery,  and Shaping Tales, a reimagining of classic tales via mixed media abstraction, figural painting, video media and glass sculpture at Coastal Contemporary Gallery. New exhibits are also popping up at DeBlois Gallery, Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery, and Downtown Designs.

Tours, which will last about 30-45 minutes, will include information about all of the participating galleries, museums and cultural institutions in each area as well as any other interesting art related stories. The tours run on Newport Gallery Nights from May through October.

Free Walking Art Tours and New Program for May Newport Gallery Night

The Newport Gallery Organization will also be starting a new interactive program during May Newport Gallery Night. This “Surfs Up” by Annie Wildeynew program will use the current Newport Gallery Organization brochures as punch cards for each of the participating galleries. Whoever visits the most participating galleries during Newport Gallery Night hours will receive a gift card redeemable at any of our galleries. In order to be eligible to receive the gift card, participants must upload a photo of their hole punched/marked off the Newport Gallery Organization brochure to Facebook and tag ‘@Newport Galleries’ in the post. If a participant does not have Facebook, the photo can be emailed to info@newportgalleries.org. If there happens to be a tie, then there will be a random, raffle style tie breaker.

Spring Bull Gallery will be presenting their show, “New Beginnings,” from Saturday, May 4th through Friday, May 31st. This show features Rhode Island-based artists Susan Aitcheson, Donato Beauchaine, Lorraine Bromley, Mark Knapp,  Stephanie Marisca, Susan Petree and Jonathan Small. The opening reception for this show will be held on May 4th from 5:00-7:00pm.

Coastal Contemporary Gallery will be presenting, ‘Ebb & Flow, Reflections of Passing Time’: Paintings and Porcelain Sculptures, from Thursday, May 2nd, through Sunday, June 2nd. There will be live music at the opening reception, which will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2:00-6:00pm. This new exhibit features artists Annie Wildey, Michele Poirier-Mozzone, and Susan Schultz.

DeBlois Gallery will be presenting their May show, “Living Color,” From Saturday, May 4th, through Sunday, May 26th. All are welcome to the opening reception on May 4th from 5:00-7:00pm. Refreshments will be served. “Living Color,” features artists, Meredith Brower and Kadejah Foster. “Brower forages and photographs mandalas that she creates from the flora and fauna found around her farm in Tiverton RI. Foster, working in the digital realm, takes advantage of the medium to experiment freely with color, scale and style in her pieces.” DeBlois Gallery will be open during Newport Gallery Night hours. Free admission and parking will be provided.
